These stones have many little imperfections, so they are not perfectly smooth. Little cracks and fissures, specks, striations, inclusions, etc. - all part of the natural shungite. They are structurally sound.

Why is Petrovsky Shungite Special?
Petrovsky is the least known type of shungite. The carbon content of Petrovsky is somewhere between elite shungite and black shungite - around 70 to 80 percent. It is very rare and difficult to find these days, and much of what vendors call "Petrovsky" is not really Petrovsky.
Petrovsky looks much like black shungite but has a bit more of a metallic luster and polishes up a little shinier.
Petrovsky is the best of both worlds - higher carbon content (meaning, higher number of fullerenes) but still able to be carved and polished into forms such as beads and palm stones.
